On 16 and 17 July, members of our RTG came together for a two-day excursion to Berlin, combining scientific insights, cultural highlights and plenty of opportunities for exchange.
The programme started on Thursday with a visit to BESSY II at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (https://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/forschung/quellen/bessy/index_de.html). With the support of Marcus Bär, the group gained fascinating insights into the synchrotron facility, its research infrastructure and its broad range of scientific applications.
The next stop was HySPRINT (https://www.helmholtz-berlin.de/projects/hysprint/), where Silvia Mariotti gave an engaging presentation on current research activities in photovoltaics. A guided tour of the JointLab rounded off the scientific programme and offered a closer look at ongoing projects and experimental facilities.
On Friday, the group explored Berlin from a different perspective. A guided tour of the German Bundestag provided fascinating insights into German politics and history, before the excursion came to a relaxed close with a boat trip along the River Spree.
The two days offered an inspiring mix of science, culture and informal exchange, making the excursion a memorable experience for everyone involved.
